Things about me that make other people go hmmm? |
My favorite thing about the business? |
|
How often do I visit the business? |
Oh dear god. This place cannot get any better.
I went in today with a twenty. Talk about prepared.
I walked out with ZONGZI (!!!!!!!) and was so happy, and even happier when I ate one of them for dinner tonight. Zongzi are medium-sized parcels of joy (also known as rice dumplings or Chinese tamales). They are all made of glutinous rice with different fillings. My favorite? The savory one with a fatty slab of pork belly in the middle. Guess what kind of zongzi Chiu Quon had today?! Only, it gets better, theirs has Chinese sausage in it. SWEET! Another pork product?! I'm all over it. These are traditionally eaten during the Dragon Boat Festival that takes place in June, yet somehow I am eating them on the couch, in Evanston, in freezing January. Happy happy happy!
Left with other usual suspects - crispy sesame balls, custard buns (complete with that sweet, delicious, "pineapple" bun crumbly topping). Too bad I only got 2 zongzi. I shall have to return later this week and stock up (and pick up some Chinese New Year Cake/nian gao... which they also had).
This place has completely won me over (again)! Even the nice lady who spoke wonderful English and told me what was in the zongzi, made fun of me while I stuttered ("se-se-se-sesame ball"), and kept asking me if I wanted more things that I was oohing over. See you soon se-se-se-sesame ball lady! xoxo!
